Zizheng "Boris" Liu, is a director, producer, and editor born in Beijing, China and currently living in LA. Boris's artistic journey was sparked at his undergrad UCSB, where an encounter with Mr. Wang, a local fisherman and chef, deeply influenced his approach to storytelling. This led to the creation of "The Dumpling King" (2020), a poignant film that delves into themes of identity, loneliness, and perseverance. It was selected and premiered at the Oscar-Qualified 35th Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
At the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Boris was awarded the George Lucas Family Foundation Scholarship, the Dana & Albert Broccoli Scholarship, and the Edward Thomas Troutner Endowed Student Scholarship (cinematography). He also served as a teaching assistant to Tom Jacobson, former President of Worldwide Production at 20th Century Fox and Co-President at Paramount Pictures, and Dianne Farrington, Emmy-winning cinematographer and board member of the International Cinematographers’ Guild (Local 600).
As a producer, Boris’s film Ebezina received the Jury Award at the 29th DGA Student Film Awards, while Venice Drifting won Best Student Short at the Venice Shorts Film Festival. His directorial work “Stairway” (2023) was officially selected at the Oscar- and BAFTA-qualifying 17th LA Shorts International Film Festival.
Boris’s latest project, “Echoes of the Sea” (2024), blends environmental themes with mythical storytelling, reflecting his passion for creating visually compelling and socially conscious films. The film received Best Fantasy Film at the Santa Monica International Filmmaker Awards and Message of Hope at the Tokyo International Short Film Festival, and was selected for the 29th LA Shorts International Film Festival.
Since graduating from USC, Boris has produced hit vertical mini-series like One Fateful Night with My Boss (DramaBox, with 5.3 million+ views on YouTube and 1.3 million+ views on Dailymotion). He also produced The Virgin’s Bucket List and His One and Only Love(LP) for Reelshort. In addition, his work on audio-format vertical storytelling includes Duke’s Masked Bride (2024) (YouTube episodes show multiple thousands of views per clip) and Queen of Hearts (2025)(PocketFM). Total documented cross-platform views (where publicly available): ~ 6.4 million +.
On the Commercial side, Boris has collaborated with Intertrend on major brand campaigns, producing and directing dynamic Toyota drifting videos and interviews featuring Ken Gushi (Formula Drift Champion), Enik Lin (musician and singer), and Mike Gao (VFX artist). His most recent work includes the Toyota 2025 Lunar New Year campaign video.
Clients include: Toyota USA, CA Lottery, Bayfortus Sanofi, and Choctaw Casinos & Resorts.
Since March 2025, Boris has worked as a Video Producer & Director at Daniel Yu Jewelry, creating content for Instagram (42K followers), TikTok (50K followers, 715K views on a single video), and YouTube. He oversees the entire production process, from concept to post-production, ensuring a consistent and high-quality brand identity. His videos have collectively reached millions of views across all platforms.
